Chapter I — About Us
Our Story

The Quest for the Perfect Gin
After years of pursuing their own paths, three childhood friends reunited for a proper night out in Antwerp. Looking at their old horse trailer, they thought — "Why not! Why not turn it into a mobile bar and make our own spirits?"
The idea was intoxicating, but reality sobered them quickly. They were spirits novices, let alone gin connoisseurs. So they headed to Portobello Road in London, the epicentre of gin culture, where their journey into the world of spirits truly began.

The Pivotal Moment
By chance, they met a Dutch engineer with a vision to create his own still. He questioned: "Why are so many distillers still using technology from 200 years ago?"
Driven by this curiosity, he designed a modern still built for the 21st century. Trusting his innovation, the founders decided to purchase it — and everything changed.

The Recipe
They began experimenting with the still to craft their own recipe, aiming for a citrus-forward gin with a peppery finish. They started with fresh peels of pink grapefruit, lime, and lemongrass, adding cardamom and coriander seeds for earthy undertones.
The gin was super-smooth and citric — but it needed more depth. From their learnings in London, they knew that peppers could provide the body they were looking for.

The Missing Ingredient
In their quest for the perfect pepper blend, they discovered the Timut Pepper — a rare spice from the Himalayan hills of Nepal. This intriguing pepper carries citrusy notes reminiscent of grapefruit, lime, passion fruit, and jasmine.
Combined with two other peppers, the Timut Pepper brought their vision to life. It seamlessly bridges the spicy and citric notes — and The Drunken Horse Gin was born.

The Michelin Star Moment
With their medals in hand, the founders visited The Jane — a two-Michelin star restaurant in Antwerp. The sommelier sampled the gin and praised its three flavour waves: citric, earthy, and spicy, noting how the Timut pepper seamlessly bridges the spicy and citric notes.
Impressed, he purchased 60 bottles on the spot. That moment inspired the founders to share their gin with the world. Their goal: for everyone to experience The Drunken Horse Gin at least once.
